Ricky Sayer’s Recent Regional/National Honors

Standard

I’m grateful to have won/placed in a few regional/national journalism competitions.

In the Society of Professional Journalists national Mark of Excellence Awards, I won first place in the Feature TV Reporting category.

Regionally in the same competition, I won first place in both the “General TV Reporting” and “Feature TV Reporting” categories in the northeastern United States. In addition, the CitrusTV News team I led won the “Best All-Around Television News Magazine Category.” The team included News Director Erin Lyons, Associate Producer Rob Flaks, and Graphics Manager Katie Goralski. I’m incredibly thankful for their efforts in helping to produce the most extensive single story in CitrusTV News history.

I was also honored as a finalist in the “Online/Digital Videography” category. The CitrusTV News team was also a finalist in the Best All-Around Newscast Category for a newscast I reported for. That newscast was produced by Ally Heath.

One of my feature stories won a Silver Telly Award.

Nationally, I was honored as a top-20 finalist in the Hearst TV Hard News competition. The competition asks colleges across the country to select and submit the work from two students.

In the New York State Broadcasters Association award, I was named the best social media personality and won for best live shot reporting.

Finally, in the Broadcast Education Association’s annual national competition, two of my stories were honored with an “Award of Excellence.” The categories for these honors include “Television (Long) Feature Reporting” and “TV Sports Story/Feature Reporting (Short)”

I’m thankful for all the mentors I’ve had, both at CitrusTV, the Newhouse School, and WBNG. It’s their experience, expertise, and willingness to work with me, which has made me a better reporter.

Below I’ve linked the stories I’ve produced which have been recognized.
